Fundraising
Raise money for your club or organisation and have fun doing it

Oamaru Movie World 3 fundraising events offer an easy, fun and lucrative opportunity for charity, sporting, recreational and community organisations to raise money.

What are fundraising events?
A suitable up-coming movie is selected in conjunction with theatre staff, along with a suitable day and time for the event (restrictions imposed by film distributors may dictate what films can be made available and when in a film's season an event can be scheduled). The fundraising organisation then prepares tickets for the event and starts selling them and the event is then scheduled along side our normal public sessions.

Purchased tickets are presented at the event in order to gain access to the film. At the conclusion of the film supper is served in the Movie World 3 foyer. Oamaru Movie World 3 will supply the coffee or tea (with guests pouring their own), the fund raiser supplies food if desired.

Important: the food for supper must arrive "ready to serve". It is the responsibility of the fundraising organisation to arrange the food on plates etc. (we recommend disposable plates are used). Movie World 3 staff will place the food on the tables at the conclusion of the film.

Tickets and selling
Tickets for the event must be prepared by the fund raising organisation and approved by the theatre staff before selling can commence. The ticket must include the following information:

  • Name of the film
  • Ticket price of $13
  • Full censors rating
  • Date & time of the event
  • Benefiting organisation name
  • Reference to Oamaru Movie World 3

To maximise sales we recommend that ticket sellers be supplied with a film description sheet, the content for which can be sourced from theatre staff, this website or the film's official website.

At all times the fund raising organisation is responsible for the security of all tickets, money taken and any refunds for cancellations. Unless prior arrangements have been made, payment to Oamaru Movie World 3 must be made at the conclusion of the event.

$870

How much money
can we raise?

The maximum amount of money you can raise from ticket sales is $870 (every seat in our 150 seat theatre). Tickets for fund raising events are priced at $13 per person. $4 of this goes directly to the fundraising organisation; the remaining $9 is apportioned to the film distributor and Oamaru Movie World 3 for film and building rental plus the tea and coffee supplied during intermission.

As a sales incentive the full ticket price for the last 30 seats in the theatre goes directly to the fundraising organisation. For example if 140 tickets are sold then the organisation will raise $740 (120 seats x $4 + 20 seats x $13).

Frequently asked questions
What films are available?
Not all films are available for fundraising events although the very large majority are. Check with us if you have a preference.

Can I pick a particular date?
You will be asked for dates on which you are able to host the event. The films available around that time will then be offered. Sometimes we know the date a film will commence in Oamaru many weeks in advance and sometimes we get 10 days notice. We always endeavour to give you as much selling time as possible however with Oamaru being a small market we often must wait in line for films sometimes with relatively short notice.

Can we get the first screening?
The majority of evens occur on the night of the movies opening day in Oamaru. The movie distributors (the owners of the films) specify minimum screening requirements which we must meet. This means we often have to screen a movie in the afternoon of the opening day. The impact on your sales of this however are very minimal as the theatre is rarely busy during the day.

How does supper work?
You deliver the food for the supper before the start of the movie. While the movie is playing the theatre staff will arrange the food on tables along with the tea/coffee. You get to enjoy the movie!

We're interested! What next?

Step 1: Register your interest
Please contact us at the theatre or email fundraising@movieworld3.co.nz. Either pickup a registration form from the theatre or download and print one from here.

Step 2: Decide on the movie
We'll work with you to pick a movie based around the dates on which you are able to host an event. Please note that fundraising events are popular and operate on a first come first served basis for specific movie requests.

Step 3: Prepare your tickets
We need to approve the ticket design checking that it includes the required information (listed above) before you can start selling.

Step 4: The event
On the night you deliver any food for the supper. Your guests present their ticket at the theatre door, and then enjoy the movie and the supper served afterwards.

Step 5: Payment
At the conclusion of the night the commerical aspects of the event are settled, all going well leaving your group with a tidy return for very little effort!

Tips for Ticket Selling
We can't sell tickets on your behalf but we do allow you to sell in the foyer prior to the movie. So if people are undecided as to availability their you could suggest coming along on the night.

Poster campaign. In the past groups have done very well by putting up posters around town and in particular in Motels - there is not a lot to do on a weekday night so tourists are often interested in a night at the movies.

Place a complementary item on the community notice board on the radio.

Print out information about the film from our website or the movie's website (there is a link off our site). Give this to the ticket sellers - it helps to have information on the film.
